Ashtanga Yoga 3-Part Series

SATURDAYS, JUNE 10, 17 & 24 10:45am - 12:15pm

Ashtanga yoga is a set sequence of yoga postures linked together with pranayama (breath work) and vinyasas (flow) to build heat in the body. This is a dynamic and athletic form of yoga that has proven very effective in building strength and toning the body. The practice itself is a moving meditation promoting mental and emotional balance.

The Introduction to Ashtanga Yoga workshop is a 3-part series that will introduce key principles for the Primary Series including the opening mantra, breath work, warm up, standing and seated series, and energy locks. Each class will build up on the other and the third will be the climax of putting theory to practice.

If you are disciplined or want to cultivate more discipline in your day-to-day life this practice is an excellent tool to help you develop that muscle. The set sequence is also a great tool for measuring progress in your daily practice. No prior yoga experience is necessary, modifications will be offered, but not suggested for beginners.

Cecilia was born and raised in Mombasa, Kenya. She immigrated to the US in 2017. Yoga first came into her life at the age of 12. Cecilia began developing her personal practice and diving deep into the world of yoga at university. Upon completing her degree, she travelled to India with her husband and completed her teacher training in 2014.

She’s been teaching ever since up and down the East African coast and in the US. Cecilia is well versed in many styles of yoga from dynamic challenging styles like vinyasa power yoga and ashtanga to gentle styles like yin yoga. For Cecilia yoga is more than exercise, it has enriched so many aspects of her including her physical, mental, and emotional health as well as being a catalyst to deepen her connection with her higher self and God. Her goal as a teacher is to share the magic of the practice with her students and encourage personal growth and self-exploration.

I discovered Yoga and realized that through Yoga I could find the calm that comes in the storm of being a military wife. When I arrived in NC I started my Yoga Teacher Training in March of 2021 through Yoga Legacy. I completed my 200 HR and registered with Yoga Alliance. I decided I wanted to know more and continued my education with Yoga Legacy. I’m currently more than halfway thru my 500 Hour Advanced Yoga Therapy Essentials. I have trained in Yin, Restorative, Children’s, Detox, Hot, Water and Senior/ Chair Yoga. I use my background as a dancer and my training in Yoga to provide a relaxing but playful approach to teaching Yoga and spreading the joy you get from making that Mind Body Connection. I also am a Certified Group Fitness Instructor and a Certified WERQ Dance Fitness Instructor.
